There's a concept that's been floating around for decades called the commoditization of process or commoditisation of capability. I first encountered the concept in the business management book "The Innovators Dilemma" by Clayton Christiansen back in about 2013 which was first published in 1997. Clayton was talking about disruptive technologies and what they do to firms, and charted the rise of the minicomputer and how it disrupted the mainframe, along with the later rise of the desktop and how that affected the minicomputer.
